Treatment Program
Tinnitus Phase-Out™ treatment, our proprietary treatment method, is fundamentally different from
all other currently available tinnitus treatments.
Tinnitus is a constant, independent and spontaneous
activity of the brain. Usually when you hear something,
the neurons in the auditory cortex (the part of the
brain concerned with hearing) fire electrical signals to
stimulate other neurons in the brain. However, in tinnitus,
the auditory cortex detects the signals within its own
auditory circuits after they have been sent, creating an
endless loop of signalling. The Tinnitus Phase-Out™ system introduces a second controlled loop capable
of counteracting the tinnitus by playing the sound at
the same pitch but shifting the wave in time. Imagine
a pendulum being knocked out of phase by a second
pendulum swinging at the same speed but shifted in
time. The first pendulum would be disrupted. This is
what the Phase-Out™ system does to your tinnitus.
Customized Approach
Most tinnitus treatments using sound generation as part of the therapy
can be characterised as "one size fits all." In contrast,
Tinnitus Care customises a treatment sound
pattern to match the specific frequency and volume
of a patient's tinnitus. Once a specific sound
wave has been matched, it is then electronically
manipulated to create a series of reciprocal
waves that significantly reduce, and in some
cases eliminate, a patient's perception of
tinnitus.
Relief for a Week or More
By listening to the therapeutic sound pattern for 30 minutes, up to three times per week, patients are able to obtain relief from their tinnitus for one week, on average. This residual effect varies among patients and may last as long as several weeks.
The Treatment program
The treatment program consists of an initial evaluation at a Tinnitus
Care Centre followed by a series of three in-office
Tinnitus Phase-Out™ treatment therapy sessions each lasting about 45 minutes.
Individually "Sound-Typed"
At the initial evaluation session, patients will have an evaluation,
including an audiogram, and, if suitable for treatment,
will be carefully "sound-typed" to
determine their individual tinnitus characteristics.
Once these tinnitus characteristics have been
matched, patients will be exposed to a prescribed,
electronically manipulated tone through headphones
for 30 minutes.
If it is determined that Tinnitus Phase-Out™ treatment therapy is
achieving the desired therapeutic effect, the
Tinnitus Care Centre will
prepare a customized home treatment device based on
the patient's specific tinnitus characteristics. Patients
are directed to administer their own treatment on a pre-planned
schedule or as often as needed.
Easy, Convenient Therapy
Patients schedule twice-yearly evaluation visits to the
Centre to ensure they are receiving maximum benefit from
the treatment
program and to determine if their tinnitus characteristics
have changed. If there is a change, the Centre adjusts the
therapy.
